Jose Navarro trained in Arts Education specialises in providing workshops in mime, puppetry, and the unique traditional ‘Peruvian Scissors Dance’.

After many years of experience, his teachings which includes demonstrations and practical activities, makes him uniquely placed to deliver and manage inspiring successful workshops.

Jose has taken part in voluntary schemes, running art workshops to re-engage children and adults of all cultural origins in artistic and creative activities. In 2003 he was supported by the Peabody Trust and the Millennium Awards, to lead mime classes. In 2004 he volunteered for the Big Arts Week. In 2006/07 participated with ‘Puppet and Mime’ projects in the STEP - Southwark Theatres’ Education Partnership Festival. He is registered to Wise Moves Dance Ltd, and gives workshops at many schools throughout the UK.

::::::::: WHAT

The workshops may consist of a combination of any of the following:

MIME:You will learn about a whole range of classical and contemporary mime techniques. Topics can include body awareness, physical exercise routines to develop, practice and improve the body’s flexibility, resistance, strength, fixed points, counterweight (pulling a rope, pushing a wall, lifting heavy things), manipulation of imaginary objects, walks, legibility, make-up, creation and performing a short mime story, and much more.

PUPPETRY: Jose specializes in Object Animation Theatre and ‘Body Puppetry’ where body parts are used as a medium with props such as the eyes and nose, in order to create puppet characters. This can also be taught in conjunction with other styles.

Traditional Peruvian SCISSORS DANCE: Jose Navarro is probably the only practitioner in the UK of this ritualistic, shamanic and acrobatic dance style; colorful, lively movements and steps, straight out of the Peruvian highlands. This unique workshop includes a demonstration of an excerpt form the dance, teaching of basic steps, choreography and at end of the workshop a showcase of the participants' work.
